Technical Specialist, Mobile Equipment
Summary of responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Senior Mining Maintenance Coordinator, the Technical Specialist, Mobile Equipment will lead the assessment, selection and optimization of the mobile fleet for the various study phases (opportunity / scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed engineering), integrating reliability requirements, lifecycle and total costs.
The main objective will be to develop and validate maintenance and life cycle (LCC) cost models, lead technical‑economic analyses, and work closely with manufacturers / OEMs to identify configurations, optimal mobile equipment options and systems. More specifically, the incumbent will be called upon to:
- Lead the analysis and direction of decisions regarding electrification, automation and new mobile fleet technologies, recommending the best solutions based on productivity and health and safety.
- Develop and lead cost models to estimate the total cost of mobile equipment over mine life, including equipment lists, maintenance and lifecycle, associated costs, maintenance infrastructure and inventory requirements.
- Develop and maintain maintenance cost models, obtaining pricing and schedules for key components and ensuring they are factored into the overall project costs.
- Conduct fleet option technical comparisons and recommend optimal scenarios (performance, availability, risks, CAPEX/OPEX, emissions, maintainability) for studies.
- Work with manufacturers to identify the best combination of options, features and equipment systems to meet project requirements and customer needs.
- Work closely with internal teams, manufacturers and other stakeholders to evaluate equipment choices, ensuring project objectives and budgets are met.
- Contribute to the equipment database for future references.
- Develop cost models and gather data on crushers, conveyors and other new mobile equipment solutions.
- Contribute to the improvement of cost models and standardization of documentation.
Qualifications
- Technical degree in mechanical engineering or industrial maintenance or university degree in mechanical or mining engineering;
- Minimum four (4) years of relevant mining experience is an asset;
- Excellent knowledge of mobile mining equipment and emerging technologies (electrification and automation); .
- Experience in cost modelling and heavy equipment maintenance scheduling;
- Ability to analyze and interpret technical and financial data;
- Be able to communicate in English and/or French;.
- Office suite skills, knowledge of InEight and AutoCAD an asset;
- Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or eligible for membership is an asset.
