Field Mechanical Engineer
G Mining is seeking a skilled Mechanical Field Engineer to join its team for the Oko West gold mine project located in English Guyana. The project is already in the construction phase, and we are looking for a Field Mechanical Engineer interested in an on-site project execution challenge. The ideal candidate will oversee and ensure alignment between design and on-site construction, acting as a middleman between project management and on-site operations activities for all mechanical activities related to the construction of this mining site.
Key Responsibilities
Site-Based Construction Supervision:
- Review incoming designs, specify and coordinate required materials and equipment with procurement.
- Produce and/or review detailed mechanical engineering plans for mechanical equipment and implement on-site modifications.
- Coordinate local technical permitting requirements.
- Manage and resolve cross-discipline clashes or conflicts when discovered in engineering deliverables (drawings and specifications).
- Provide technical assistance to Construction Supervision.
- Manage field information requests and site design changes.
- Manage, control and maintain onsite drawings, files and registers.
- Verify that construction work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instructions as well as applicable regulatory requirements.
- Oversee three (3) weeks of mechanical activities, planning and scheduling.
- Monitor material quantities, conduct inspections and verify quality of mechanical equipment installations (SAG Mill, Ball Mill, Tanks, Crushers, etc.).
- Track mechanical construction progress, resolve technical issues, and implement design changes as needed based on site conditions.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (structural, piping, process, electrical, instrumentation, etc.) to integrate Mechanical into overall project plans.
- Serve as the primary liaison between engineering and construction for all mechanical-related matters.
- To inform the supervisor in a timely manner of the identification of institutional, economic, commercial, labour, environmental, people safety risks.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Prepare detailed reports on project progress, technical issues and resolutions.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, field modifications and construction updates.
- Provide regular updates to project management on engineering and construction activities.
- Review and approve QA/QC tests, reports and documentation where required.
Health & Safety:
- Adhere to and enforce G Mining’s safety standards, promoting a strong safety culture on the site.
- Ensure all mechanical construction activities are performed safely and efficiently, in compliance with local and international safety regulations.
- Supervise and coordinate site teams, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure work conforms to plans, specifications, safety standards, and local codes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
- 3-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in large-scale heavy industrial or mining projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles related to industrial infrastructure.
- Experience in both engineering design and field operations.
- Experience in the construction phase of the projects.
- Proficiency with engineering design software such as AutoCAD.
- Ability to work in a remote, site-based environment under challenging conditions and on a rotational schedule.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficient in English (oral and written).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in gold mining or heavy industrial projects is an asset.
- Knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements in Guyana or similar regions.
- Previous experience working in remote locations.
Additional information about the project and contract
- Name of the project: Oko West Gold Project.
- Location: English Guyana (Region 7) – 95 km North of the capital Georgetown.
- Target start date (around July 1, 2026).
- Target contract end date (end of December 2027).
- Position based on mine site (mine camp).
- FIFO project (Fly-in/Fly-out) based on a 22 – 20 rotation schedule.
- 12 hours per day on site, 11 hours per day work schedule.
- All transportation, accommodation and meals provided by G Mining.
