Senior Metallurgist Engineer – Process Plant Design
Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Vice-President in Metallurgy, the Senior Metallurgist Engineer will contribute to process plant design and optimization. Key duties include:
- Lead the development of process engineering deliverables including process design criteria, mass and water balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and control philosophy / control narratives during project phases (concept, basic, and detailed engineering).
- Plan, review, and interpret metallurgical test work to establish process design criteria.
- Select and size major and minor mineral processing equipment and collaborate with equipment vendors.
- Complete equipment specifications and datasheets, where applicable.
- Ensure process designs meet safety and environmental standards while participating in design reviews.
- Conduct process design calculations and support the development of deliverables.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated designs.
- Prepare and analyze operating costs (OPEX), including labour, power, maintenance, reagents and consumable costs.
- Support the development of capital cost estimates (CAPEX).
- Conduct techno-economic trade-off studies to optimize flowsheets, equipment, and technologies.
- Summarize metallurgical test results in reports and presentations.
- Write process descriptions.
- Participate in process risk assessment sessions such as HAZOP.
- Participate in process plant layout development and 3D model reviews.
- Support plant commissioning, as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, or Chemical Engineering.
- Proven experience in mineral process plant operations and engineering consulting, with expertise in gold and/or base metal ore processing.
- Process plant operating experience as a plant metallurgist or technician or operator or plant manager.
- Up-to-date knowledge of process technologies and trends.
- Fluency in French and/or English and/or Portuguese.
- Availability to travel periodically to mine sites; must hold a valid passport.
