Lead Field Piping Engineer
Summary of responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Piping Superintendent, the incumbent will be involved in providing technical engineering support to the site construction management and supervision team to ensure that construction work complies with the engineering design including specifications, codes, and standards. More specifically, the Field Lead Piping Engineer will be called upon to:
- Analyze technical bid and make recommendations.
- Verify consistency of site data and conditions.
- Coordinate the granting of technical approvals from local authorities.
- Manage and resolve cross-discipline clashes or conflicts when discovered in engineering deliverables (drawings and specifications).
- Assist with the Field Engineering section of the Construction Execution Plan.
- Monitor design, scope of work and their impact on the schedule.
- Review and approve QA test reports and documentation, as required.
- Provide technical assistance to Construction Supervision and QA/QC.
- Manage field information requests and design modifications.
- Develop and verify purchasing specifications for temporary construction work.
- Review contractor supplied deliverables including as-built documentation.
- Coordinate inspections in collaboration with third parties and competent authorities.
- Generate and check sketches and annotations for engineering deliverables.
- Manage and update on-site drawings, files, and registers.
- Review contractual documents, identify conflicts and recommend solutions.
- Verify that work complies with engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
- Perform technical examinations during provisional and final inspections.
- Inform in a timely manner management of any risks identified (worker safety, institutional, economic, commercial, etc.).
Requirements
- Have a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, process or related engineering.
- Have a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience, particularly in construction supervision.
- Experience in the mining or heavy mineral industry is considered a major asset.
- Be able to communicate in French and English, both spoken and written.
Abilities
- Solid knowledge of on-site piping design and installation.
- Proficiency in technical drawings (isometric, P&ID, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Self-reliance and leadership demonstrated in team management.
- Adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities.
- Safety and environmental awareness.
