Instrumentation Programmer

Summary of Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Chief Instrumentation Engineer in the Electrical Engineering Department, the incumbent will be involved in the design and programming of industrial automation systems to support the mining projects of our local and international clients. As part of your duties, you will have the opportunity to complete the entire project cycle (from programming in the office to on-site installation). More specifically, the Instrumentation Programmer will be required to:

  • Program and configure programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to control industrial processes.
  • Develop and support PLC and HMI programs for use on industrial equipment.
  • Design and develop automation networks in collaboration with the interdisciplinary engineering team.
  • Apply functional descriptions of process controls and operation sequences based on process diagrams.
  • Participate in the bidding and supplier selection process in collaboration with the procurement department.
  • Ensure the commissioning, debugging, and optimization of automation programs, test point-to-point, and resolve technical issues that arise after operations begin.
  • Follow safety and quality standards when designing and installing systems.
  • Perform any other related tasks required during projects.

Requirements

  • Degree related to electrical , computer science or automation field.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, ideally including experience in the mining sector. International experience will be considered a strong asset.
  • In-depth knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLC and SCADA) and industrial programming software; Schneider and Allen Bradley are assets.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams.
  • Programming skills (e.g., Ladder languages, C++) and systems integration.
  • Available and legally authorized for occasional site travel in North and South America.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing, at a professional level.
  • Spanish will be considered a significant asset.
  • Willingness to work a few months per year at international mining sites on a “fly-in, fly-out” rotation basis.

Additional Information

  • The position will be based at the G Mining Services office in Brossard or in Latin America (depending on the preference and location of the candidates).
  • Possibility of hybrid work (office and remote work).
  • This position requires several consecutive months of office or hybrid work, followed by several months of work deployed at mining sites.
