Chief Engineer – Earthworks

Summary of responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Earthworks Director, the Earthworks Manager will play a key role in the department. The individual will provide ongoing support to their manager, in addition to day-to-day management of the internal team. The design, contract management and monitoring of local and international mining projects will also be part of the responsibilities. The Earthworks Manager will be more specifically called upon to:

Team Management and Director Support:

• Lead, motivate and coach the internal team to achieve the objectives;
• Participate in annual employee assessments, issue disciplinary opinions and contribute to professional development processes;
• Provide regular reports and strategic recommendations to the Director.

Design and Modelling:

• Design and model earthworks using 3D CAD/Civil software;
• Issue drawings, design specifications and technical reports;
• Ensure that plans comply with applicable guidelines, building code requirements and standards.

Contract Management:

• Draft and review contract documents for construction projects;
• Support contract preparation and manage revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements;
• Analyze and evaluate contractor bids to ensure the best technical and financial solutions.

Planning and Follow-up:

• Participate in the preparation of estimates, bill of material, schedules and budgets;
• Implement and monitor production tools to optimize productivity ratios;
• Prepare and ensure construction schedules are met and develop corrective measures as required.

Engineering Phase Support:

• Contribute to preliminary studies and the different phases of engineering projects (PEA, PFS, FS);
• Participate in the updating of plans for the production of final plans (TQC).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
• Studies in surveying and/or related field (asset)
• Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience including team management
• Member in good standing of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (O.I.Q.) or of another Canadian province
• Proficient in 3D Civil and/or AutoCAD
• Experience in a consulting engineering firm and/or with a construction contractor
• Strong experience in the construction of highways, bridges or hydroelectric dams
• Experience in the mining sector and having worked internationally (significant assets)
• Good people management skills
• Good knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
• Ability to communicate in French and/or English (bilingualism an asset)

Additional Information

• The position will be based at the G Mining Services office in Brossard.
• Possibility of working in hybrid mode (office and remote work).
• Must be available to occasionally travel internationally and within Canada to site.
